Fernando Gonçalves
Fernando is a Brazilian who earned his PhD in Ecology. He has conducted research at Sao Paulo State University in Brazil, Stanford University in the USA, University of Cambridge in the UK, and University of Copenhagen in Denmark before joining the Bascompte lab as a Postdoc. He is interested in studying the conservation biology of species and their interactions, from a multiscale landscape and biogeography perspective. Fernando received a postdoctoral fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Leandro Giacobelli Cosmo
Leandro, born and raised in Brazil, developed an early interest in how ecological interactions influence communities. His PhD delved into the indirect evolutionary effects resulting from coevolutionary dynamics in mutualistic networks and their influence on species fitness and persistence. Following his PhD, Leandro became a Postdoc at the Bascompte Lab. Currently, he is trying to understand how indirect effects contribute to the coexistence of interacting species in ecological communities.

Nicolas Zurbuchen
Nicolas is a PhD student who is broadly interested in plant ecology, botany, and biodiversity. Supervised by Fletcher Halliday, he joined the research group of Anna-Liisa Laine in 2022 at University of Zurich. When this research group moved away, Nicolas transitioned to the Bascompte lab to continue his research. Nicolas is also a member of the disease ecology and diversity lab lead by Fletcher Halliday. Nicolas focuses his doctoral research on how plant–consumer interactions are shaped by global change.

Miguel Román
Born and raised in Spain, Miguel graduated as a Geneticist from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. After obtaining a MSc in Modelling for Science and Engineering in Complex Systems from the same university, he joined the lab in 2022 as a PhD student. His research focuses on applying his background in quantitative genetics and computational skills to explore indirect effects in coevolutionary models with many different species and traits.

Antonio Ferrera
Antonio's research focuses on the underlying causes that result in the formation of structure in ecological networks. In particular he is interested in the analytical formulation of insights that may relate the appearance of structure in ecological webs with the ecosystem's ability to persist and remain stable under external shocks and perturbations.

Gisela Collazo
Gisela is the group's administrative assistant. Gisela loves the University's international and diverse environment and the multi-faceted duties of her role at the lab. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the USA, Gisela earned her Bachelor's degree at University of Florida in French Language and Literature and her Master's at Georgia State University in Heritage Preservation.

Fernando Pedraza
Fernando joined the Bascompte lab in 2019 as a PhD student. During his PhD, Fernando used models and computer simulations to explore how coevolution unfolds in ecological communities. Previously, he earned a BSc in Biology from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico and later, a MSc in Computational Methods in Ecology and Evolution from Imperial College London.
